I-Safe at the Currituck County Health Fair

On Saturday, 2/24, Currituck County held a health fair.  Currituck County Schools participated by providing information about Internet Safety.  We passed out literature and showed videos on Cyber Predators, Identity Theft, Computer Security, Cyber Bullying and general Internet Safety.  It was nice to talk with a couple of children from The Knapp School who said they were learning some of these things from Ms. Maziarka.

Student Response System

Fifth grade students at Central enjoyed using E-Instruction’s Student Response System during a math class yesterday.  Edna Luper and Debbie Jacobs with Powder Puff Technology conducted the class and demonstrated how students use “clickers” to indicate their answers during instruction and assessment.  Each student has a small, remote control device with buttons on it.  The student presses the button that corresponds to the correct answer.  The student’s answers are recorded on the teacher’s computer.  These students stayed very engaged in the lesson and enjoyed testing out this new technology.

Board of Education Tour

I had the pleasure of accompanying the Board of Education on their tour of schools yesterday.  We saw many examples of students and teachers using technology to enhance teaching and learning.  See the photographs below for examples.

I-Safe Parent Night at Moyock Elementary

Sandy Reynolds and Teresa Burnett presented an Internet Safety workshop for MES parents on 2/8/07.  Using I-Safe materials, they explained the dangers children face on the Internet.  Sheriff Johnson attended and described some of the Internet related problems she has had to deal with.  She made it clear that we are not immune from problems in Currituck County.  The parents asked good questions about how to protect their children.  The key to Internet Safety is to know what your children are doing on the Internet and monitor their activities.
