Technology Academy 2007

Attention Teachers, Assistants, and Administrators:

It’s 2007.  Do you know what your students are up to?  In a recent study 9 to 17-year-olds report spending almost as much time on the web as they spend watching television.  Do you wonder what they are doing online?  What is so engaging?  Is there a way to bring some of these technologies into the classroom?

We will be exploring these questions and more in Tech Academy 2007.  This is a voluntary staff development experience that will span the entire academic year.  I am looking for adventurous educators with average to above average technical skills who will actively participate in this professional learning experience.  We will have two or three face-to-face meetings during the year.  The remainder of the program will be online.

Topics will include:
1.    Blogs, wikis, and other Web 2.0 technologies
2.    Google in all its glory (Google Pages, Google Reader, Google Docs, etc.)
3.    Podcasting
4.    Moodle (an online course management software similar to Black Board)
5.    Models for integrating technology in the classroom
6.    Using Smart Boards, Mimio, and classroom response systems.

Participation is open to teachers, administrators, and teacher assistants.  Please respond and let me know if you are interested or would like more information.

It seems by looking over the Blogs on the school network that individuals are not participating. Reasoning will be different for everyone but this learning experience should increase the traffic related to this subject. Trying to keep up with or stay ahead of the students understanding of technology and its use is not easy.
